Thursday 2 July
We didn’t wake until 8am this morning, the sun was out but it did look threatening. We hadn't decided what to do today so went through all the obvious permutations. Truro, Penzance, St Michael’s Mount etc, but in reality we really we couldn’t make up our minds what to do, in the end plumbed for Truro locked up the van and set off for the walk to the Railway Station in Redruth. We hadn’t gone 100yds when the sky started to look dark and we both knew if we were to carry on we were in for a soaking. Back we came to the camper.
Deciding caution is greater than valor, we packed the van ready for a drive to Penzance and St Michael’s Mount. Post Code given to Steven and off we went. 20 minutes into the journey on the A30 we hit long delays and according to Steven there were more to come. Petra consults the map and we are off to a third destination.
Midday found us at a Godrevey Point National Trust Car park a beautiful cliff top car park that looks over the wide expanse of sand that is St Ives Bay. Godrevey Island has its own lighthouse and across the bay we could see Carbis Bay, St Ives on to St Ives Head to the North of St Ives. We first saw this bay and hugh beach on the way to St Ives on the train so it was very interesting to see it from the other side. The weather was great and exactly as the weather forecast had predicted. Bright with sunny periods with occasional showers. It was also a bit windy and rather on the cool side.
After lunch we went for a short walk to have a better look at the lighthouse and returned to van where we idled away the afternoon drinking tea, watching kestrel’s hover on the updraft from the cliffs and of course the surfers in the sea.
We really had a lovely day and despite not doing anything that we set off to do we don’t regret a moment of the day, after all, retirement is being able to make instant decisions without worrying about doing everything all at once. We can visit Truro or St Michael’s Mount at any time and if we don’t do it this time well so what!
Here are some pics.
