Saturday 4 August
The morning started off as any other today with us waking up at 7.30, both of us having a good nights sleep. Two thinks to do today, SHOPPING and clean the van so it was toast for breakfast (we’ve given up on cereals) with real Cornish butter (real stuff with patted marks all over it) and tea.
We wanted to get off early to drive to Truro as we know that the parking is difficult and we wanted to park near Tesco’s. On arrival we found the car park next to Tesco and as always looked for the safest place to park Campy. It’s always a toss up with a space which has room for the van and security. Too busy and you run the risk of having the van damaged and too quiet and it gets broken into. As it happened we found a row of other campers and decided that we should park next to them. Amazingly, the one we parked next to was another Bilbo the same as the one they lent us whilst we waited for Campy.
Happy we were as secure as can be we set off to explore. We didn’t get far as we remembered we were next to the camping shop we went to the last time we were in the area. In we went and came out with another bag of goodies. A couple of water containers, a Rohan Micro Fleece for Petra (a hole in her wardrobe she needed to fill) and a long Rohan waterproof coat for Kevin. This resulted in us having to return to Campy to off load all our purchases.
Set off for a second time with more success. Truro is really nice, we liked the City Centre and all the usual shops are easy to find. Truro has a fine Cathedral which regrettably we couldn’t fit in as we were too busy shopping. All manner of things purchased from Lakeland and various other kitchen shops. They also had a market running which was ok but did not quite have what we were looking for as we were hoping for more local produce. Finally, we bought a great Union Jack cushion for Campy’s bench seat. More colour for the inside of the van.
Returning to Campy we walked behind a couple who carried on in front of us till we reached our van, it turns out they were the owners of the Bilbo next door to us. Obviously, we started up a conversation which resulted in us having a lecture about travel abroad and all the things we needed to buy etc etc....Lunch in Campy, and Tesco’s shop done, we came back to the campsite and set to cleaning the outside of Campy. By the time we finished she was back in show room condition inside and out and we were both very satisfied with our efforts.
At about 4.30pm we went for a walk not far away from the campsite to some abandoned Tin Mines. The fields around us are littered with them and we thought now was the time to have a look. Apparently, this particular mine (Wheal Peevor Mine) was very large and had several pumping houses and crushing machines etc. Here are a few pictures to show you what we saw.
This by the way is the view of the Golf Club we are staying at in Radnor near Redruth
