Saturday 18 August
We were up early today and were on our way before 9am. We were on our way to see Josie and Paul in Reading but on the way couldn’t resist going to Sandham Memorial Chapel. The humble exterior of the memorial chapel gives little sense of the great art within. A series of epic paintings by 20th century artist Sir Stanley Spencer depict a surprisingly intimate and personal view of the First World War. It really is gem of a place to visit and well worth short detour to have a look.
We spent the afternoon in the delightful company of Josie and Paul and stuffed ourselves with BBQ Beef, Pork, Chicken and the odd leaf chased down with copious amounts of strawberries and fresh cream.
Friday 17 August
Tesco shopping again in the morning but things really hotted up for lunch, We were kindly invited to Dagmar’s new flat in Rose Green. It’s a lovely flat and is perfect for Dagmar. We were treated to a home made pasta meal which was absolutely delicious. Thank you for being such a great cook and for your hospitality.
In the afternoon Petra went to Tracy’s leaving party and Kevin went to see the guy’s from Chantry House and had a few drinks in the Old Cross in Chichester. Great to catch up on all the going’s on since we left and to meet old friends. Many, many thanks to all our friends who have made our first return to Chichester so happy. We have had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. See you again in 2013 when we come back from Spain.
